We have decided to stop supporting older versions of Android from 1 October 2024. Initially this applies to Android 6, 7 and 8 which were released in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
A lot has happened in the Android world since then, and we have very few users who use these versions. It takes a lot of extra work and planning to support them. Which in turn prevents us from having the development we want in areas that are used by most users.
In addition, there is a security aspect that we have to think about. Most other systems do not support versions that far back in time precisely for these reasons. Users with iPhones are not affected by this.
What does it mean for me?
If you have one of these Android versions, you can still use the SmartDok app, but you cannot download new updates to SmartDok after October 1, 2024. To receive SmartDok updates, you must therefore update your operating system (Android) to a newer version .
If you are sitting on a very old device that does not support newer versions of Android, you will unfortunately have to replace the device in order to receive SmartDok updates.
So you concluded the consequence of this for you who have older versions is that you cannot update the app, but can use it. But it is worth noting that from time to time we have to make our updates as forced updates. A forced update means that you cannot use the app if you do not have it updated. For those with older Android versions, such a forced update means that you cannot use the SmartDok app at all.
For your information, we also intend to stop supporting Android version 9 later this year.
